URBAN COMMONS: Moving Beyond State and Market
[27 – 28 September 2013] We’re about to give a talk at the Urban Commons: Moving Beyond State and Market conference organised by the Humboldt University in Berlin. With a series of panels, investigating urban commoning and the creation and maintenance of urban commons, a number of issues ranging from its agency, new forms of commoning (like inspired by the digital commons) or the economic enclosure of urban commons are discussed. STEALTH’s talk focuses on the difficulty for interim/temporary uses to provide a structural, long term contribution to urban commons, and will contrast current interim practices with the much more determined and persistent late-19th and early 20th century co-operative housing movement and struggles.
